After completing an MA Hons degree in Psychology at Edinburgh University in 1989, I went on to teach English as a foreign language for a number of years. I started a small wholesale business in 1999 selling Japanese incense products and then went on to work as a freelance trainer in customer service and communications skills. I became a student of Indian meditation teacher Sri Chinmoy in 1989, whose philosophy inspired me to have a go at swimming the English Channel in 1994. I only made it about half-way across the first time but went on to complete it three years later after which I vowed not to do it again as it had been so gruelling. Since then I’ve completed it a total of 10 times!
When not swimming my main interest is learning the violin which I started at the age of six. I took up lessons again about ten years ago with Angus Ramsay from Lanark. I also like learning foreign languages, juggling and the occasional game of golf.
